Round 20 Review of One Future Football

Round 20 kicked off in Buenos Aires where third-place Club Sportivo Palermo entertained fourth-place Manhattan FC.

The big story from this game was the return to form of Dale Ramos. The Texan was Manhattan’s talisman last season, but he has struggled this season with just four goals to his name before this game.

He opened the scoring in the 21st minute after some nice play from Daniel Cezar. Isaac Carter doubled Manhattan’s lead on 44 minutes and Ramos killed off the game in the 70 minutes with a stunning free-kick. Palermo went down to 10 men three minutes later as Dani Martos got his marching orders. Salvador Broglia pulled one back for the Argentinians from the penalty spot. It finished 1-3.

Next to Tokyo where Tokyo Youth Club and Naija United both needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. It was the Nigerians who took all three points thanks to a Charles Ogude goal in added time in the first half. The captain and Player Coach has now led Naija to three wins in their last five games with just one defeat.

The Super Sunday game was a cracker in Sydney as Bondi FC and Inter Nusantara drew 2-2. The deadly duo of Segara Biru and Bas Holsink put Nusantara 2-0 up with goals in the 5th and 54th minutes respectively. However, Bondi did not give up. Charlie Baker-Jones pulled one back in the 88th minute and Parfait Atangana equalised in the fifth minute of added time.

Elsewhere, Bader Abdullah and Alex Aquino scored in Riyadh Stars’ 2-1 win over FC Angelenos. Mateo Morales netted for the LA side. Bengaluru Phoenix thumped South London United 4-0 in India. Lorenzo Schiavo, Geronimo Martins, Abdulkadir Surmeli and Liam O’Malley with the goals. That result cost South London manager Alex Davis her job.

Finally, Brasil Amazonia caused a bit of an upset in Manaus beating Paris St-Denis by two goals to nil. Dani Viana and Darwin Saenz on target for the Brazilians.
