Alex Vergara is a 32-year-old defensive midfielder from the Funza area of the city of Bogotá in Colombia. With his tough tackling and aggressive play, Vergara is known as a real spoiler in the midfield, breaking up play and winning the ball back with ease. He has a competitive streak that sometimes leads him to bend the rules, but his tenacity and drive have made him a valuable player for Club Sportivo Palermo. Despite his sometimes cranky personality, Vergara loves playing in Buenos Aires and hopes to end his career there when the time comes. He is not a fan of the youth movement that has taken over the dressing room, with their music and dancing, and misses the days when the younger players feared the older ones. To his eternal shame, he joined in a dance with Salvador Broglia after a late winner last season, something the entire squad has never allowed him to forget.
